Sylvia Toone (Vicain)

Sylvia Ann Vicain

SEPTEMBER 8, 1944 – DECEMBER 2, 2020

Sylvia Ann Toone Vicain of Jersey Village, TX met her Savior face to face on December 2, 2020. She was born on September 8, 1944 in Jonesboro, AR. She graduated from Arkansas State College with her Teaching Degree in Elementary Education. After graduating she served in Arizona with the Home Mission Board on an Indian Reservation. After her time in Arizona she met Les Vicain in August of 1969 and they married on December 13, 1969. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last December. Once married, they moved to North Carolina as Les was reporting to duty for the Marine Corps. In 1971 they moved to Dallas, Texas and she began her teaching career in Garland ISD. She gave birth to her “July Firecracker”, Victoria Vicain in 1972. The family of 3 moved to Houston, Texas in 1974 and her “Christmas Angel”, Valerie Vicain that December. She continued to teach in Aldine ISD for about 8 years. Following her career in education she transitioned to the oil and gas industry. She was a treasury analyst for Conoco, Inc. In 1985, she passed her securities exam and began the transition to working with Les and the Financial Solutions Firm. She retired from Conoco to partner in business with Les as a financial advisor. Sylvia also served as the Prayer Chaplain for the SEAL (Securing Every American’s Legacy) team for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church Houston and sang in the choir. She always enjoyed participating in the Christmas Pageant and loved her Sunday School class. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution since 1985 and enjoyed serving her community and in leadership with her local chapter. Sylvia wholeheartedly loved the Lord and faithfully served Him. She was a prayer warrior and taught her daughters to pray. After her girls left home, she continued to be a part of the MOMs in Touch group to pray with her neighborhood moms. She was hospitable and often opened her home to others. Our mom enjoyed baking, cooking, reading and playing games like Chinese Checkers and Chicken Foot. She was a great story teller and thoroughly enjoyed living life! She is survived by her husband, Les Vicain; daughter; Victoria Lawshe and husband Brandon, their children Micah, Lauren, and Zeke; daughter; Valerie Hill and husband, Ryan, their children Cooper and Creed; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Toone, Connie Whisenhunt; brothers-in-law, James Vicain, John Vicain, Bill Vicain and many nieces and nephews. I am so sorry to read about Sylvia's death. I've know her since fifth grade. Her mother was my sixth grade teacher. We were Girl Scouts together. We lost touch after graduating from WMHS, but I share with her family the celebration of her life. Her mother would be so proud.

I was so sorry to hear about Sylvia's passing!!  I also knew her in grade school through high school, and had her mom as my teacher!!  Sylvia was a lot like her mom-- sweet and bubbly, always smiling and friendly!!  We had lost touch through the years, but had reconnected later on through Facebook!!  I had not conversed with her lately though so was unaware of recent health issues!!  Her life surely is a testimony of Christian service that was so like her!!  May God comfort her husband and family as only He can!!  Rest In Peace, sweet friend!!!

Sincerely, Sharon

I was sad to learn of Sylvia's death.  Even though we have not seen each other in years, she has long been a dear person in my childhood memories.  We were in scouts together and in the same class at South School.  Her precious mother was one of my favorite teachers.  I always marveled at how they carried off the teacher/daughter roles.  I know she had a good heart.  Her picture reminds me so much of her mother.  May she rest in peace and may her family be comforted.  Ann
